Passenger Killed As Car Strikes Trees In Cumberland County

A passenger was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Cumberland County, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 9:55 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10 on Route 670 in Fairfield, according to New Jersey State Police.

The driver of a westbound vehicle veered off the road and struck two trees, State Police said.

Hartley Pernell, 60, of Bridgeton, died of his injuries.

The 57-year-old Millville woman driving the car, Pamela Herring, was seriously injured. Two other passengers — a 43-year-old Bridgeton woman and a 45-year-old man from Berlin in Camden County — suffered moderate injuries. All three were brought to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
